Storyteller

Storyteller

My grandpa was a storyteller. He would tell the pretty-much-the-same story over and over again and draw square shapes on the table with his fingers while talking. The story was about the time when Finland was at war and he was in the military forces. He was with his mate somewhere in the woods taking guard, I guess, and they would stumble upon this tiny house in middle of nowhere, and the family living in the house didn’t even know about the war. They had been on the field for weeks and asked if they could get some goat milk. They drank so much milk. The the story had the same ‘shitty’ end every time. I remember being mesmerised about his endeavours.

I love stories. I love stories in books. I love stories in movies. I love hearing stories and I love telling stories. I’ve been doing both all my life. And I love Finnish language. It has incredibly long words and funny dialects. You can make up new words and play with the language endlessly. It’s brilliant.

You can find my 1st published book NE – Kuukautiskirja here. It’s a book about periods, yes bloody hell. I wrote it with Rosa Meriläinen. It’s in Finnish, but you can also enjoy it just by browsing the pictures. It’s beautiful. And it’s empowering.

And there’s the 2nd book on the way. It will be published in July 2017, and I’m hoping to translate it also to English. It’s called Lipstick Mafia Stories. You guessed it, it’s based on the Lipstick Mafia blog.
